PTSD represents an emotional condition which occurs after a traumatic experience. This experience is then re-lived each time the person comes in contact with something that reminds of the event. This disorder exists ever since trauma has occurred to people, but it was called differently over time (soldier’s heart, combat fatigue).
In the US, about 7% of the people are likely to develop this condition, more often in war veterans and rape victims, and more likely in women. Moreover, it has been proved that being part of a dramatic event is not mandatory, as many people in the US suffered from PTSD after 9.11. Other statistics have shown that children who have been sexually molested or who have witnessed the death of a parent are almost certainly going to have PTSD. (more…)
